Privacy policy

Tape is operated by Gerardas Nadieždinas under the WattHack brand. For privacy questions, contact info@watthack.com. This policy describes the native Tape iPhone app; the separate browser demo is addressed below.

Your recordings stay in the app

Tape stores recordings, titles, dates, durations, transcripts and partial transcripts in its private app container on your iPhone. Speech recognition runs locally using the bundled Paprika Lithuanian model. Tape does not upload recordings or transcripts to us or a transcription service.

The app has no account system, advertising, third-party analytics or tracking SDK. It does not collect your location, contacts, advertising identifier or health records.

Microphone and files

Microphone access is requested when you start recording. An already-started recording can continue when the screen is locked. You can stop or pause it in the app. Calls and microphone disconnection can interrupt recording. iOS controls microphone permission and its privacy indicator; you can revoke access in Settings.

Importing audio or an optional model uses the files you choose in the system file picker. A Files provider such as iCloud Drive may download a selected file according to its own settings. Tape does not request access to your entire file library.

Sharing is your choice

Tape sends an exported M4A or TXT file to another app only when you choose a destination in the iOS sharing sheet. That destination handles the exported copy under its own policies. We do not receive the file. Exporting may create temporary copies inside Tape's app container; iOS can clean temporary storage.

Retention and deletion

Recordings and transcripts remain in the app until you delete them or remove the app. Deleting a note removes it from Tape's library. Copies you previously exported or shared, temporary exports, and device backups may remain independently. Delete those copies in their respective locations when needed.

App data may be included in an iCloud or computer device backup if you enable system backups. Apple and your backup settings control those copies; Tape does not operate its own backup or sync service.

Support and external links

If you email support, we receive your email address and the content you choose to send, and use it to respond to your request. Please do not send private recordings, passwords or sensitive transcripts. Email providers handle delivery under their own policies. You can ask us to remove support correspondence, subject to any applicable retention obligations.

The app's support, privacy and licence links open external websites. Those websites and their hosting providers receive ordinary technical request information when you visit. This website is hosted through OpenAI Sites and Cloudflare infrastructure. The Tape app does not send usage analytics to this website.

The separate browser demo

The web recorder at this site is a separate application. Its recordings and text are stored in that browser's IndexedDB and do not automatically sync with Tape for iPhone. The browser demo downloads its local speech model from Hugging Face and its inference library from jsDelivr when you choose transcription; those providers receive the corresponding network requests. Processing is performed in the browser. Clearing browser site data can delete web recordings. These browser features are not required to use the iPhone app.

Contact and changes

Contact info@watthack.com with questions or requests about information you have sent to us. We cannot retrieve recordings or transcripts that remain only on your phone. We update the date above when this policy changes.
